Last August, we launched a new captions feature allowing viewers who might not otherwise be able to understand a video’s audio track to follow along, especially those who speak other languages or who are deaf or hard of hearing. We recognize, however, that the process of adding closed captions to your video — uploading a text file — leaves a bit to be desired, even though we support a wide range of formats from various captioning service and software. A caption editor on YouTube would surely make life easier.
And what do you know? Today said editor, CaptionTube, makes its way to TestTube, thanks to the hard work of Google user experience designer John Skidgel. John built this application in his spare time.
Please note: you’ll need to have a Google account to use CaptionTube. (Read here on how to get one, or here on how to link a YouTube account to a Google one.)
Enjoy!
